Dirty Soda in Calgary: A Flavour-by-Flavour Tasting Guide

Six dirty sodas, one fountain, and a lot of people standing at the counter at Sage Hill saying "wait, which one?" If you are searching for a dirty soda in Calgary, this is the tasting guide we wish we could hand across the counter:
what is in each cup, whether it leans sweet, tart or creamy, whether it has caffeine, and which item from the menu it likes sitting next to.
If you want the general idea of what a dirty soda is, our main dirty soda page has it. Here we go straight to the flavours.
Every cup is C$4.29 and mixed fresh at the fountain when you order. Three are built on 7UP, one on Orange Crush (all caffeine-free), and two on Pepsi, which does contain caffeine. We have grouped them below by how they drink, starting with the lightest.
Raspberry Cloud: the soft landing

What is in it: 7UP, raspberry, vanilla and cream.
How it feels: Raspberry up front, vanilla underneath, cream to finish. It drinks like a berries-and-cream dessert that happens to sparkle, gentle rather than sharp.
Caffeine: none, because the base is 7UP.
Best with: the Classic Crunchy Fried Chicken Sandwich (C$11.49), where it is mild enough not to fight the ranch and slaw.
If you are introducing someone to dirty sodas, our menu notes say to start them here, and it is the one we would hand a first-timer.
Peachy Pine Splash: sweet, but light on its feet
What is in it: 7UP, peach, pineapple and cream.
How it feels: pleasantly sweet, with the pineapple adding a tangy lift. The 7UP keeps it fizzy and light rather than heavy, and the cream smooths the end. It reads tropical and drinks easy.
Caffeine: none.
Best with: the Hot Honey Sandwich (C$11.49). Sweet meets sweet-heat, and the mild pepper warmth in the honey does not feel punishing against a fruity drink.
Blue Raspberry Breeze: the cool one

What is in it: 7UP, blue raspberry syrup, vanilla and cream.
How it feels: fruity sweetness, fizz and a smooth, creamy body. Our menu describes it as fruity sweetness meeting creamy refreshment.
Caffeine: none.
Best with: anything spicy. Our menu notes say the cream cools Nashville heat better than anything else we make, so this is the cup for the Nashville Hot Sandwich or the Nashville Hot Loaded Fries.
Orange Cream Dream: the nostalgic one

What is in it: Orange Crush, vanilla and cream.
How it feels: a fizzy orange creamsicle. Bright citrus on top, vanilla and cream rounding it out, so it is more creamy-bright than tart.
Caffeine: none, since Orange Crush is caffeine-free, which makes it a popular kid pick and an easy evening order.
Best with: fried chicken in general, where the citrus cuts through the richness, and the Classic Chicken & Waffles for anyone leaning into the sweet side.
Island Classic: the dessert drink

What is in it: Pepsi, coconut, vanilla and cream.
How it feels: the mellowest in the lineup. Sweet without being sharp, with the coconut and cream turning it closer to dessert than a soda. Think beach day. Caffeine: yes, it is built on Pepsi.
Best with: anything with heat. Our menu notes say the coconut cream cools the burn better than water ever will, so pair it with the Hot As Cluck (C$16.99) if you are going Nashville.
Mango Cherry Fizz: the loud one

What is in it: Pepsi, mango syrup, cherry syrup and cream.
How it feels: the fruitiest and sweetest of the six, with bold mango and bright cherry up front and a creamy finish. Something between a cherry cola and a mango lassi's fun cousin, in our own description.
Caffeine: yes.
Best with: the spiciest thing you are willing to order. It stands up to big flavours, so it will not get lost next to Extra Hot or Cluck You Up. If you want something lighter instead, the Raspberry Cloud is the gentler pick.
How the six line up against each other

It helps to think of the lineup as a spectrum rather than six unrelated cups. At the soft end sit the Raspberry Cloud and the Orange Cream Dream, both vanilla-and-cream builds with a single fruit note, easy to finish and easy to like.
In the middle are the Peachy Pine Splash and the Blue Raspberry Breeze, which add a bit more fruit and fizz without getting heavy. At the bold end sit the Mango Cherry Fizz and the Island Classic.
They share a Pepsi base, which gives them a deeper, cola-leaning backbone and the caffeine, and then go in opposite directions: one loud and fruity, one mellow and tropical.
Two practical notes from the counter. First, because everything is mixed to order, you can ask what is lightest if you are sensitive to sweetness, and the 7UP builds are the safest guess.
Second, if you are ordering for kids or for late in the evening, stay with the caffeine-free four. Sage Hill stays open until 1 AM on Fridays and Saturdays, so a late cup is an option.
What to eat alongside
You do not need a big order to make a drink worthwhile. Kelly from Calgary noted that
"One full size sandwich and loaded fries were enough for 2 people," which leaves plenty of room for a cup each.
The Nashville Hot Loaded Fries (C$14.49) and the Smoky Chipotle Loaded Fries (C$13.49) are the obvious companions, one for fire and one for smoke.
Amira's review, from the same city, calls the cheesy fries
"insanely good." Whichever way you go, the fries are salty and rich, and a fizzy, creamy dirty soda is a good contrast to them.
Which one should you try first?
- Want it lighter and berry-ish? Raspberry Cloud.
- Want something tropical? Peachy Pine Splash for light, Island Classic for creamy.
- Want something citrusy and nostalgic? Orange Cream Dream.
- Going for real Nashville heat? Blue Raspberry Breeze, or Mango Cherry Fizz if you want it loud.
- Avoiding caffeine? Pick anything that is not on Pepsi: Raspberry Cloud, Peachy Pine Splash, Blue Raspberry Breeze or Orange Cream Dream.
The Calgary store also does milkshakes

If a cooler, thicker drink is more your speed, the Sage Hill kitchen also makes milkshakes, and one customer has strong opinions about the Ferrero.
Alina from Calgary wrote:
"And the Ferrero milkshake is seriously 100/10! We get it every single time, and it never disappoints." So the cold-drink decision at this counter is not only a dirty soda decision.
A dirty soda is the lighter, fizzier choice, while the shake is the choice for when dessert is the plan. Ask the team what the current shake flavours are.
Eating it with the full order
Dirty sodas are a side act to hand-breaded halal chicken, and the chicken is fresh, never frozen, breaded when you order. That means a few extra minutes at the counter, which is exactly enough time to decide on a drink. Calgary regulars also order the chicken and waffles, which Amira called
"crispy and delicious" in her review, with coleslaw and the cheesy fries on the side.
If you want to know where else to eat nearby, our Calgary halal fried chicken guide covers it. Prices and the full lineup are on the menu, and we are also on Uber Eats if you would rather have the cups come to you. Our chicken is certified halal, sourced from halal-certified suppliers.

Common questions
What makes Cluck Clucks different from other fried chicken chains?+
Hand-breaded to order, never frozen, six heat levels, and globally-inspired flavors like the Cluck Yeah waffle sandwich.
Is Cluck Clucks halal?+
Yes. Our chicken is certified halal — we source exclusively from halal-certified suppliers, and that applies to every chicken item on the menu at every Cluck Clucks location, in Canada and the United States. From tenders and sandwiches to our signature chicken and waffles, the chicken is always certified halal, hand-breaded to order, and never frozen.
Is Cluck Clucks chicken fresh or frozen?+
Fresh, never frozen. We hand-bread every piece to order in our own spice blend and fry it the moment you order — not in advance under a heat lamp. That's why it takes a few extra minutes, and it's a big part of why it tastes the way it does.
Where are Cluck Clucks locations?+
We have eight locations across Ontario, Alberta, and Texas: Toronto, Scarborough, Mississauga, Oakville, Waterloo, Ajax, Calgary, and Sugar Land, TX. Check our locations page to find the one nearest you, with hours, directions, and that location's menu and prices.
